Norkhonov's late strike takes Sogdiana through

Jizzakh: Shakhruz Norkhonov’s late header took Sogdiana into the Inter-Zone Final of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Tuesday as the side from Uzbekistan handed Hong Kong’s Eastern Long Lions a 1-0 defeat at the Sogdiana Sporting Complex in Jizzakh.

Sogdiana will play either ATK Mohun Bagan or Kuala Lumpur City on October 5 after seeing off Roberto Losada’s dogged side, who were finally unpicked five minutes from time by a telling cross from former Uzbekistan international Vitali Denisov.

Ulugbek Bakaev’s outfit dominated throughout but had been unable to find a way through a well-marshalled Eastern defence that continued to frustrate the home side and had looked set to take the game into extra-time.

Preview - Inter-Zone Semi-final: ATK Mohun Bagan FC (IND) v Kuala Lumpur City FC (MAS)

Kolkata: Head coach Juan Ferrando is optimistic about ATK Mohun Bagan FC’s (ATKMB) chances when they go up against Kuala Lumpur City FC in the AFC Cup™ 2022 Inter-Zone Semi-final on Wednesday. 

ATKMB resume their campaign after topping Group D in May, and will have momentum in their stride, having won 2-0 against Indian Navy FC in the Durand Cup 2022 last week. 

While they failed to advance to the quarter-finals after missing out on a top two finish on goal difference, the Durand Cup action means ATKMB are match fit for the AFC Cup.

Stan: I knew Al Seeb would win

Kuwait City: Head coach Ilie Stan had full confidence that Al Seeb Club would advance to the AFC Cup™ 2022 West Zone Final at Arabi SC's expense on Monday. 

Despite playing away, Al Seeb found their scoring boots in extra time with Muhsen Al Ghassani (95th) and Salaah Al Yahyaei (99th) putting them ahead in the semi-final with Kingsley Eduwo scoring a consolation for Kuwait's Arabi SC five minutes from the end as the Omani side sealed their place in the West Zone Final on October 4.

Loss an eye opener, says Arabi's Trenchovski

Kuwait City: Head coach Jugoslav Trenchovski said Arabi SC's AFC Cup™ 2022 West Zone Semi-final defeat to Al Seeb Club was a learning experience not only for his team but also Kuwaiti football.

The hosts fell 2-1 to Al Seeb in extra-time on Monday as the Omani club struck through Muhsen Al Ghassani and Salaah Al Yahyaei with Kingsley Eduwo scoring a consolation five minutes from the end.
