Alhosani applauds Abu Dhabi’s team spirit

RIyadh: Abu Dhabi Club captain Fatima Alhosani celebrated her team’s qualification to the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 group stage by praising the collective efforts that propelled them to defeat Al Nassr Club of Saudi Arabia 1-0 in their Preliminary Stage tie on Saturday.

A listless first half saw both sides toil in front of goal until second half substitute Rekha Poudel broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, calmly slotting home the winning goal after Abu Dhabi keeper Jeane Da Cruz launched a precise long ball to Eugenia Tetteh, who set up the decisive finish.

Al Nassr Club, reduced to 10 players after Clara Luvanga was sent off with 15 minutes left on the clock, could not overcome the numerical disadvantage, leaving Abu Dhabi Club to secure a narrow victory.

The win places Abu Dhabi alongside Wuhan Jiangda of China PR, Korea Republic’s Incheon Red Angels and Sabah FA of Malaysia in Group A in the next round.

Kota Kinabalu: Nurul Azurin Mazlan produced an outstanding performance to help Malaysia's Sabah FA defeat Uzbekistan’s FC Nasaf 2-1 in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group C tie at Likas Stadium on Saturday to qualify for the group stage.

The win meant Sabah finished on four points - one ahead of Nasaf - with the Malaysian side advancing to Group A where they have Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC (CHN), Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s FC (KOR) and either Al Nassr Club (KSA) or Abu Dhabi Country Club (UAE) for company.

Thimphu: Islamic Republic of Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC booked their place in the group stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 after defeating Kitchee SC of Hong Kong, China 2-0 in their Preliminary Stage Group D tie at the Changlimithang National Stadium on Saturday.

Bam Khatoon finished with a perfect record, having beaten Bhutan’s Royal Thimphu College FC 2-1 on Matchday One and will join Australia’s Melbourne City, Kaya–Iloilo of the Philippines and Thailand’s College of Asian Scholars in Group B of the inaugural edition of the tournament.
