Al Fayha upset Al Hilal to win historic Saudi King’s Cup

Jeddah: Saudi Pro League newcomers Al Fayha FC stunned Al Hilal SFC 3-1 on penalties to clinch their maiden Saudi King’s Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday.

The two sides were locked at 1-1 after extra time with Al Fayha prevailing in the penalty shootout thanks to a superb performance from their Serbian goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.

Thai women seal futsal gold; Vietnam to face Thailand in men's football final

Hanoi: Vietnam and Thailand will battle for the Hanoi SEA Games men's football gold medal after extra-time wins in Thursday's semi-finals.

Sixteen-time champions Thailand edged Indonesia 1-0 while defending champions Vietnam  defeated Malaysia with a similar score.

Thailand, meanwhile, retained the women's futsal gold medal after defeating Vietnam 2-1 in their final group match.

Seeb: Al Ansar head coach Abdullah Abu Zema commended his side’s fighting spirit as they muscled out a point in a 1-1 draw against three-time AFC Cup™ winners Kuwait SC in their opening match of Group A on Wednesday.

The Kuwaiti side took the lead through Tunisian striker Taha Khenissi just before the half-hour mark, but Al Ansar took the initiative after the restart, pushing forward until they were rewarded with the equaliser 15 minutes from time through substitute Jaime Siaj.

Muharraq: East Riffa head coach Florin Motroc was proud of players’ determination following their hard-earned 1-1 draw against Nejmeh SC of Lebanon in Group C of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Wednesday.

After a tepid first half, Abdulah Mubarak put Nejmeh ahead from the penalty spot after the hour mark before a battling East Riffa clawed their way back into the game through Luiz Fernando's stunning curler.

The result leaves both sides with a point, with Nejmeh taking on Hilal Alquds in their Matchday Two fixture on Saturday, while East Riffa will face Tishreen of Syria.

Seeb: Head coach Boris Bunjak hailed his Al Seeb side’s attacking efforts after they edged out Syria’s Jableh SC 1-0 to win their opening match of the AFC Cup™ 2022 Group A on Wednesday.

Facing a fellow debutant side, Bunjak’s men conceded play in the early proceedings, but quickly regrouped and grew into the game, finally getting their goal just before the half-time whistle as veteran midfielder Eid Al Farsi hammered home a strike from the edge of the area, which proved to be enough to seal the three points for the group hosts.

Muharraq: Tishreen head coach Tareq Jabban did not hide his disappointment after the Syrian side settled for a 0-0 draw with Hilal Alquds in Group C of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Wednesday.

Victory was for Tishreen's taking after Palestine side Hilal Alquds were reduced to 10 men following Musa Al Tarbin's sending off in the 67th minute, only for the Syrian side to squander the opportunity to kick off their campaign on a resounding note.
