ASEAN & East Asia Wrap: Buriram move top; Arema climb to summit

Kuala Lumpur: Theerathon Bunmathan returned to the Buriram United side after five and a half years away to help them to a convincing victory over Chiangmai United as they moved back to the top of Thai League 1. 

The title race in Indonesia continues to excite, with Arema now leading the pack after frontrunners going into the latest round of fixtures, Persib Bandung, were beaten by Bali United.

Kuala Lumpur: Defending champions Al Hilal SFC will face Tajikistan’s Istiklol in the Group Stage of the 2022 AFC Champions League, marking the second time in successive seasons the pair have faced off in the continental club championship.

Qatar’s Al Rayyan and the winners of the playoff between Sharjah from the United Arab Emirates and Iraqi side Al Zawraa round out Group A after the draw was completed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, but many eyes will be on the clash between the four-time champions and the club from Dushanbe.

2022 AFC Cup Group Stage Draw serves up mouthwatering ties

Kuala Lumpur: Three-time winners Kuwait SC will take on Lebanon’s Al Ansar as well as Al Seeb Club from Oman and Jableh of Syria in Group A after the draw for the 2022 AFC Cup was conducted in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Kuwait SC, who share the record for the most wins in the competition with Iraq’s Air Force Club, will look to add to the trophies claimed in 2009, 2012 and 2013 when they kick off their latest title challenge in May.
