Europe Wrap: Kumagai, Kerr claim league titles

Kuala Lumpur: Japanese defender Saki Kumagai scored a hat-trick in her farewell match for Bayern Munich as an 11-1 win over Turbine Potsdam secured the women’s league title in Germany for the Bavarians while her compatriot Takuma Asano scored and assisted to help VfL Bochum beat Bayer Leverkusen and escape relegation in the Bundesliga.  

Sam Kerr bagged a brace as Chelsea defeated Reading 3-0 on Saturday to win their fourth consecutive Women’s Super League title in England while Islamic Republic of Iran captain Ehsan Hajsafi helped AEK Athens dispatch PAOK in the Greek Cup final and complete a domestic double.

Kumagai to leave Bayern

Munich: Former AFC Women’s Player of the Year Saki Kumagai has confirmed she will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the current season.

The 32-year-old, who was crowned Asia’s leading female player in 2019, revealed on social media that she planned to leave the Bavarian outfit following Sunday’s game against Potsdam after two seasons with the club.

Korea Republic join Uzbekistan in knockout stage

Mendoza: Korea Republic sealed their spot in the FIFA U20 World Cup Argentina 2023 Round of 16 after a 0-0 stalemate against Gambia in their final Group F tie on Sunday.

The result meant the Young Taeguk Warriors remained unbeaten and finished second behind Gambia with France, who defeated Honduras 3-1, third.
 
Korea Republic will meet Ecuador in the Round of 16 on Thursday while Uzbekistan, Asia’s other representative in the knockout stage, will play  Israel on Tuesday.
