Qatar power past UAE into semi-finals

Doha: Hosts Qatar advanced to the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 semi-finals with an emphatic 5-0 win over United Arab Emirates at the Al Bayt Stadium on Friday.

Felix Sanchez's side turned on the style before their home fans, taking a 5-0 lead going into the break and will look forward to the semi-finals, with either Morocco or Algeria their next opponents.

Tunisia end Oman's campaign

Doha: Oman gave it their best but had to concede defeat in the end as Tunisia advanced to the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 semi-finals with a 2-1 win on Friday.

Branko Ivankovic's side did well to force themselves back into the tie after going 1-0 down at the Education City Stadium but Tunisia's almost immediate response meant Oman's campaign came to an end at the quarter-final stage.

Australia to enter India 2022 as highest ranked contender

Kuala Lumpur: Australia will enter the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 as the top ranked contender, while DPR Korea remain Asia’s highest ranked women’s national team, after the December update to the FIFA Women’s World Ranking was revealed on Friday.

With a victory over Brazil and draw with the world number one United States among their results since the previous update in August, the Matildas remain 11th in the world, one spot behind DPR Korea, who are not among the 12 teams to have qualified for next month’s continental Finals.

Khujand upset Istiklol in Tajikistan Cup Final

Khujand: FC Khujand won the Tajikistan Cup for the fifth time, surprising runaway league winners FC Istiklol with a 2-0 extra time win at 20 Years of Independence Stadium on Thursday.

Rustam Khodjae’s side outlasted an Istiklol side that finished 13 points clear in the league, with Khodzhiboy Ziyoev giving them the lead before Artem Serdyuk made the trophy safe in the dying stages of the extra time period.
 
Khujand’s win marks their first Cup win since 2017, while Istiklol – who won the tournament eight times in 11 years from 2009 to 2019 - have now missed out for a second successive year.

Singapore: Malaysia continued their winning streak in Group B of the AFF Cup after beating Laos 4-0, while Indonesia opened their campaign with an emphatic 4-2 win over Cambodia on Thursday.
