Group B: Bahrain advance; Saudi Arabia keep hopes alive

Kuwait City: Bahrain confirmed their spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 Gulf Cup with a 2-0 win over defending champions Iraq in their Group B tie on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, kept their hopes alive after coming from two goals down to defeat Yemen 3-2 and will meet Iraq on Saturday to decide who advances to the knockout stage alongside Bahrain.

Group A: Kuwait, Oman close in on semi-finals

Kuwait City: Hosts Kuwait and Oman took a giant step towards the 2024 Gulf Cup semi-finals with wins over the United Arab Emirates and Qatar respectively on Tuesday.

Both registered 2-1 victories to move up to four points and only need a draw when they face off on Friday to advance to the semi-finals.

Oscar confirms Shanghai Port departure

Hong Kong: Brazilian playmaker Oscar has confirmed his departure from Shanghai Port after eight seasons, the former Chelsea forward revealing on social media that he has returned to Sao Paulo.

The 33-year-old made the announcement as he brought down the curtain on a stint in China PR that saw him win three Chinese Super League titles as well as the Chinese FA Cup and the Chinese Super Cup.

Kuala Lumpur: Only six places remain available for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ with the final round of Qualifiers to kick off in March, 2025.

A total 24 teams will be in the hunt to join the 18 sides who have already sealed qualification by virtue of advancing to the AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 2026.

The draw for the final round of the Qualifiers saw the 24 teams divided into six groups with only the group winners to advance to Saudi Arabia 2027.

Seoul: Former AFC Champions League winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have appointed Gus Poyet as their new head coach, the K League club announced on Tuesday.

The Uruguayan replaces Kim Do-heon at the helm after the club narrowly avoided relegation to the second division in Korea Republic with a 4-2 aggregate playoff win over Seoul E-land earlier this month.

Tehran: Persepolis FC have parted company with Juan Carlos Garrido, the Spaniard leaving the Iran Pro League side after a disappointing run of form that has left the club fourth in the domestic standings.

Kobe: Vissel Kobe have confirmed the departure of captain Hotaru Yamaguchi, with the J1 League-winning captain leaving the club to join V-Varen Nagasaki.

The move to the second division outfit brings an end to a six-year spell with the club, during which time Yamaguchi helped steer Kobe to back-to-back league titles and two Emperor’s Cup crowns.
