Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has offered his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Hussein Aljunied who died on Saturday at the age of 73.
Hussein was a goal-poacher centre forward who captained Singapore in 1971. He went on to be the national coach twice, from 1973 to 1976 and 1984 to 1986, winning the Malaysia League in 1985 and guiding the Lions to the Southeast Asian Games silver medal in the same year. The well-respected master tactician also led Singapore to finish joint champions with Yugoslavia in the 1985 Merlion Cup.
He is survived by wife Zahrah Sulaiman, a son, three daughters and 10 grandchildren.
Hussein will be remembered for his services and contribution to Asian and Singapore football.
