Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has concluded a deal with the leading Korea Republic cable broadcaster JTBC for the exclusive rights to broadcast the AFC’s portfolio of football events in Korea Republic from the 2017 season through to 2020.
The AFC’s agreement with JTBC includes broadcasting rights across 12 competitions at both the club and national team level from 2017 to 2020. Korean audiences will be treated to high-profile fixtures such as the FIFA World Cup 2018 Asian Qualifying Final Round, AFC Champions League, AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 and the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. The AFC’s two flagship futsal events as well as several men’s and women’s youth events at the national team level are also to be shown.
“Korea Republic is a football powerhouse in Asia and an important market for us as we look to deliver the AFC’s Vision and Mission objectives”, said Dato’ Windsor John, the AFC General Secretary. “JTBC have shown throughout the negotiation process that they have exciting plans to maximise the AFC’s coverage and content in the coming years. We expect that this deal will further broaden the appeal of football across the country.”
JTBC will be the host broadcaster for all home matches that are scheduled to be played in Korea Republic. The first match under the new arrangement is on September 1, 2016, when Korea Republic take on China PR in the FIFA World Cup 2018 Asian Qualifiers Final Round.
