Jerusalem: Ahmed Al Hassan has been appointed the head coach of the Palestine national ahead of their historic maiden appearance at AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015.
The Palestine media also reported that team’s caretaker coach Saeb Jendeya will be Al Hassan's assistant. Jendeya had taken over from Jamal Mahmoud who resigned in September 2014.
Al Hassan holds an AFC ‘A’ Football Coaching Certificate and was technical manager at the Palestinian FA for the last two years.
He worked as assistant coach for the national team in 2007 and used to coach Haifa club in Iraq and Palestinian sides including Al Amari and Jerico.
Palestine made history when they won the last edition of the AFC Challenge Cup held in the Maldives in May after beating the Philippines 1-0.
That famous victory helped the team qualify for the AFC Asian Cup which will kick off on January 9, 2015.
Al Hassan is expected to guide Palestine when they start their Group D campaign by taking on reigning champions Japan on January 12 with Jordan, and 2007 champions Iraq to come after that.
