Kuala Lumpur: Three NGOs from Nepal, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have become the first partners of the AFC in its new Dream Asia project "Programme Support".
The project went underway last year when the AFC called for proposals from all 45 active member associations of the AFC and 12 of them responded by recommending an NGO each.
“After careful consideration last year, we have chosen three of the recommended NGOs – Special Olympics Uzbekistan, SAATHI of Nepal and Development and Cooperation in Central Asia (DCCA) of Kyrgyzstan,” said In Gill Ra, the Director of the AFC Social Responsibility Department which oversees the project.
Programme Support is one of the community-benefitting projects under the AFC Dream Asia initiative and the recipients under the project will be supported by the AFC for a year.
The Bishkek-based DCCA is a non-profit body that facilitates capacity development and strengthening of civil society organisations for sustainable economical, social, cultural and political development of vulnerable people in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia.
Special Olympics Uzbekistan, meanwhile, provides a year-round sporting activity for intellectually disabled individuals to promote their social integration through sport.
SAATHI’s mission is to eliminate injustice and violence against Nepali women and children by providing emergency shelter and other forms of critical assistance to victims of abuse.
Ra has said that Programme Support aims to help three to five NGOs around Asia annually especially those in under-developed member associations.
“Under this project, we will provide mainly funding assistance and also other forms of assistance such as know-how sharing and capacity building as and when necessary,” said Ra.
AFC Dream Asia is a movement that uses the power of the game for social development.
