Kuala Lumpur: The first steps towards an Asian Football Confederation Coaching Convention have been taken at a meeting of the newly appointed AFC Coach Education Panel.
The convention will benefit all AFC Member Associations, as it will raise the standards of coaching – and therefore also players – and promote the credibility of the coaching profession in Asia.
AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh said: “A well organised AFC Coaching Convention will ensure increased coaching standards across the continent. Creating and implementing the convention will require efforts by all of us and I am happy to see there is real commitment to design a successful future for Asian football.”
The convention will set higher and unified standards for the training of coaches at all levels of the game which will, in the long term, lead to improvements in the quality of football throughout the continent. The AFC Coaching Convention is part of the AFC’s strategy to bridge the gap between Asia and the world’s best football teams.
AFC Technical Director Andy Roxburgh added: “I would like to congratulate the AFC President and Executive Committee for having approved this initiative: having a common coaching convention for all AFC Member Associations will help educate coaches and give them more recognition. I look forward to taking this work further with my AFC Coach Education Panel colleagues.”
The AFC Coach Education Panel will now start working on the contents of the convention and a draft will be submitted to the AFC Technical Committee for its approval. The AFC Executive Committee approved the AFC Coaching Convention concept, including the need for an AFC Coach Education Panel, at its meeting on July 11, 2015, in Bahrain.
