Riffa: Bahrain continued to build towards the AFC Asian Cup 2015 on Friday as they stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-0 triumph over Singapore.
Following a goalless first half at the Bahrain National Stadium, the hosts took the lead in the 67th minute when Ismail Abdul-Latif left Baihakki Khaizan for dead with a brilliant turn of pace and advanced into the box, before coolly placing his shot past Izwan Mahbud.
Eight minutes later, they went on to make sure of the win after Sami Al-Husaini was left completely unmarked inside the box, and collected possession before stabbing home a shot from close range.
The Bahrainis are next in action at the Gulf Cup of Nations, where they will battle with hosts Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Yemen for a place in the semi-finals.
The regional competition will also provide stern tests for Al-Ahmar as they continue their preparations for next year’s AFC Asian Cup, where they have been drawn in Group C alongside Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
