India champions after winning shootout

Thimphu: India emerged champions of the SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship 2019 at the Chalimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Tuesday, defeating Bangladesh 5-3 on penalties after the match ended 0-0.

It was a feisty start to the game as India looked to take the early initiative. Priyanka Sujeesh orchestrated the attacks from the middle of the park, while Amisha Baxla looked lively from the right flank.

Bangladesh, however, also looked to hit India on the counter, and they almost had the perfect chance when forward Sapna Rani was played through behind the India defence with only goalkeeper Adrija Sarkhel to beat. The latter rushed off of her line to clear the chance.

All square between Bangladesh and India as final looms

Thimphu: India and Bangladesh played to a 1-1 draw in their final SAFF U-15 Women's Championship 2019 pool stage match at the Chalimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Sunday.

The teams will clash again in Tuesday's final, with India emerging group stage winners, finishing ahead of Bangladesh on goal difference after both teams garnered seven points.

Thimphu: Bangladesh and India confirmed their places in the final - albeit in different fashions - at the SAFF Women's U-15 Women's Championship 2019 on Friday.

Bangladesh edged Nepal 2-1 while India scored an emphatic 10-1 win over hosts Bhutan at the Chalimithang Stadium to set up not only a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday but also a place in Tuesday's final.

Chonburi: Michihisa Kano hailed the composure of his victorious Japan side after they won the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 title on Saturday.

The Little Nadeshiko produced their best performance of the tournament to beat a previously irresistible DPR Korea 2-1 in the final at Chonburi Stadium, becoming the first nation to win the tournament four times and denying their East Asian rivals a third successive title.

Making Japan’s success even impressive was the fact that they achieved it having fallen a goal behind within the opening 10 minutes, with terrific goals from Suzu Amano and Manaka Hayashi overhauling Hong Song-ok’s opener.

Japan edge DPR Korea for title

Chonburi: Japan emerged victorious at the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019, outlasting defending champions DPR Korea 2-1 in a gripping final at Chonburi Stadium on Saturday.

Two goals in four first-half minutes from Suzu Amano and Manaka Hayashi helped Japan overturn an early Hong Song-ok penalty and end DPR Korea’s four-match winning run in the tournament.

The win makes Japan the first nation to win the competition four times, as head coach Michihsia Kano’s charges followed on from previous successes at the U-17 level in 2005, and U-16 triumphs in 2011 and 2013.

While Japan claimed the title, both nations will represent Asia at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020.
