Mumbai: Sunil Chhetri gave India the lead but it wasn't enough as New Zealand came from behind to score a 2-1 win over the hosts in their final Intercontinental Cup round robin match at the Mumbai Football Arena on Thursday.
India, with their place in Sunday's final confirmed before the kick-off thanks to back to back wins over Chinese Taipei and Kenya earlier in the competition, made seven changes to their starting lineup against New Zealand.
This gave the Kiwis the advantage but despite their dominance, India took the lead through Chhetri's strike in the 48th minute.
New Zealand, however, continued to press and deservingly drew level just a minute later when Sarpreet Singh set up Andre Jong, who slotted home.
Spurred by the equaliser, New Zealand continued pressing and were rewarded when John Dyer scored the winner in the 86th minute.
