Naft's recent marquee signing, 31-year-old goalkeeper Noor Sabri (pictured), who was a member of the Iraq team that won the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, proved to be the star yet again in the penalty shoot-out as Naft became only the second club to be crowned champions in their debut Iraqi Premier League season. Formed in 2008, Naft spent the ensuing years in Iraq's Division 1 until promotion to the top-flight, under the guidance of head coach Abdul Ghani Shahad was achieved at the end of the 2013-14 season.
