Doha: The new Qatar Stars League season that kicks off on August 4 will be one of the best ever, top Qatar Stars League (QSL) official Hassan Rabia al-Kuwari has said.
The glitzy opening ceremony on Wednesday saw top officials of the Qatar Stars League Management (QSLM), team players, club coaches and members of the local media among the attendees.
The QNB Stars League will kick off a few weeks earlier than usual to accommodate the Qatar national team’s international assignments that includes the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 to be played in January next year.

Doha: Nabil Maâloul has taken over from Djamel Belmadi at the helm of Al Duhail, the club said on Friday.
Belmadi led the Doha-based club to three domestic titles - Qatar Stars League, Qatar Cup and Emir Cup - in 2018, becoming the first Qatari club to achieve the feat, as well as securing a spot in the 2018 AFC Champions League quarter-finals courtesy of eight successive victories.

Doha: Buoyed by their treble winning season, Qatar's Al Duhail have now set their eyes on the Continent's premier club competition - the AFC Champions League.
Al Duhail, who lifted the Emir Cup on Saturday to add to the Qatar Stars League and Qatar Cup titles won earlier, have carried their domestic form onto the continental stage.
They are on the brink of an AFC Champions League record, having scored eight victories en route to qualifying for the quarter-finals and will surely be the team to avoid in Wednesday's draw in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

2016 runners-up Al Ain will have home advantage in the first leg of their AFC Champions League quarter-final encounter with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Persepolis set to pit their wits against 2012 runners-up Al Ahli from Saudi Arabia in West Asia’s other intriguing last eight fixture.
Meanwhile in East Asia, Shanghai SIPG will come up against domestic rivals and two-time AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande, while Kawasaki Frontale have been drawn to face compatriots and 2007 winners Urawa Red Diamonds.
For the competition’s semi-finals, the winners of both QF1 and QF3 will host the first leg, with the winners of QF2 and QF4 due to host the return fixture.
While for the final, the winners of SF1 - West Asia - will host the first leg, and the winner of SF2 - East Asia - will host the second leg.

Doha: Al Duhail stayed undefeated to finish with a near perfect record in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) 2017-18 season, claiming their sixth title on Saturday.
Djamel Belmadi’s charges beat Al Sailiya 5-2 on their final matchday, ending their season with 19 wins and three draws out of 22 games.
Almoez Ali opened the scoring in the eighth minute for Al Duhail to take the lead, before Ismaeel Mohammad scored in the 27th and 42nd minutes for a 3-0 advantage in the first half.
Their dominance continued with Nam Tae-hee finding the back of the net nine minutes after the restart, while Al Sailiya managed to pull one back 10 minutes from time with Valentin Lazar’s strike but Korean international Nam restored their four-goal lead five minutes later.
Lazar scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute, as Al Duhail went on to claim all three points and the QSL crown, concluding the season with 60 points, with Al Sadd trailing 11 points behind in second place.
