Kathmandu: Pakistan registered a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Bangladesh but even that win was not sufficient for them to seal a place in the knockout stages of the ongoing South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship 2013.
In the last match of Group A played at Halchowk Stadium, Pakistan needed India to emerge victors in another simultaneous kickoff match against Nepal but the hosts stunned the defending champions meaning Pakistan had to go head-to-head with India who had defeated them 1-0 earlier.
Nepal topped Group A with seven points while India edged Pakistan for the second place with superior head-to-head record.
Bangladesh, who could have edged India for the second-place finish in the group with a win, started promisingly after Hasan Ameli gave them a 30th minute lead but captain Samar Ishaq levelled the score in the 36th minute.
The winner came when substitute Kaleem Ullah scored two minutes into stoppage time.
