Beijing: Legendary former Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf has been named as the new head coach of Chinese second-tier side Shenzhen FC.
Seedorf, who has not had a coaching role since leaving AC Milan in June 2014 after five months in charge, arrives in China with Shenzhen currently occupying seventh place in the China League One standings. They trail table-topping Qingdao Huanghai by seven points.
During a glittering playing career, Seedorf played 87 times for his country and became the first player to win the UEFA Champions League with three clubs - Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan. He made more than 400 appearances for Milan where he won two Serie A titles.
For now though, Seedorf’s main priority will be to restore the fortunes of a club that won the Chinese Super League title in 2004, but which has subsequently languished in the second division since 2011.
