Beijing: DPR Korea’s Sung Hyang-sim and Chen Xia of China won the tournament’s MVP and Topscorer Awards respectively after the completion of the AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship 2013 for the East region on Sunday.
China became the champions after beating DPR Korea 6-5 on penalties in the final match that had finished 1-1 after extra time.
Sung was virtually a scorer in every match that DPR Korea played, having scored a goal each against Japan in their opening match and then in their 7-0 routing of Chinese Taipei and also the winning sole goal against neighbours Korea Republic in the semi-final.
Chen (pictured above), meanwhile, bulged the hosts’ opponents’ five times – twice against Northern Mariana Islands whom they whipped 9-0, once in their 5-0 victory over Korea Republic and twice against Guam who succumbed to them 6-0.
Korea Republic won the tournament’s third place after securing a 2-1 win over Japan who in turn won the Fair Play Award.
