Manila: Substitute Sarawut Masuk took Thailand to the semi-finals of the 2016 AFF Championship after snatching a late goal to defeat Singapore 1-0 in Group A at the Philippine Sport Stadium on Tuesday.
The War Elephants dominated the game in terms of possession and territory, but chances proved to be few and far between as Singapore defended resolutely throughout.
However, Sarawut headed in with a minute to go in normal time to break Singaporean hearts and send his side through to the last four.
In the group’s later game, Indonesia drew 2-2 against hosts Philippines. Defender Fachruddin Aryanto got on the end of a Stefano Lilipaly free kick after only seven minutes to send the travelling Indonesian support into fits of ecstasy.
