Nay Pyi Taw: Timor Leste got their third win in their qualifying campaign for the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 as they whipped hosts Myanmar 6-1 at Wunna Theik Stadium on Sunday.
The latest victory came after beating Vietnam 2-1 in their opening match but then they drew 0-0 with Malaysia before going on to thump Brunei Darussalam 14-0.
Orcelio Nobelito Moises Guterres Moreira Da Silva, Leopoldo Artur Gutierres, Filomeno Junior Da Costa, Joao Pedro Da Silva Freitas, Sebastiao Periera Dos Santos and substitute Nivio Maro Angelo Da Costa Marcal Alberto were all on target for Joao Manuel Da Silva Araujo’s side.
Htet Phyoe Wai scored the consolation goal for Teshima Atsushi’s Myanmar side.
Timor Leste now sit on 10 points from four games and look good to clinch the ticket to the finals but they still have competition from Malaysia and Vietnam who are on second and third spots respectively in their Group E as of Sunday noon. Myanmar, having accumulated three points from four games, are already out of reckoning.
Timor Leste will be facing the Philippines in their last match on Monday while hosts Myanmar will be up against Brunei.
Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq have already booked their tickets to the finals after finishing their respective qualifying groups.
The results of the ongoing Group E and also Group F, both in Myanmar, will complete the qualification stage of the eight-nation inaugural U-14 tournament.
