Abu Dhabi: The Continent’s top teams went head-to-head in friendly matches as preparations for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 intensified with Asia’s biggest and most anticipated football competition starting in four days.
As the countdown begins before the curtains are raised at the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, the 24 teams are putting in the finishing touches in their bid for Asia’s ultimate prize.
Qatar have been the busiest team in recent weeks and have showed great ambitions in lifting their first-ever AFC Asian Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over Jordan and a 1-0 win over AFC Asian Cup debutants Kyrgyz Republic.
However, the West Asian side’s undefeated streak since their win over Switzerland in November came to an end with double losses against Algeria 1-0 and three-time AFC Asian Cup champions Islamic Republic of Iran 2-1.

Abu Dhabi: Stephen Constantine needs no introduction to Indian football fans. The Briton first managed India between 2002 and 2005, and since January 2015 he has been in charge for a second spell with the South Asian nation.
Under him, India have made steady progress. Ahead of India’s fourth campaign in the AFC Asian Cup – they previously qualified for the 1964, 1984 and 2011 editions – Constantine reveals his thoughts in an exclusive email interview with the-AFC.com.

Abu Dhabi: Hassan Al Haydos reckons that an exemplary performance by Qatar in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup would be tremendous boost for the country which will be hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Qatar have appeared in the AFC Asian Cup nine times but managed to reach the quarter-finals only twice – in 2000 and 2011 – something which hurts the 28-year-old veteran of more than 100 international matches.
“It’s a very important year for us as we are competing in the Asian Cup as well as the Copa America. I have to thank the federation for Qatar getting an invite to the Copa America which is one of the toughest tournaments in the world,” Al Haydos told Qatar’s Gulf Times newspaper.
“Then we have the World Cup coming up in four years. These tournaments are part of our preparations for the FIFA World Cup.”

Kuala Lumpur: The clock is ticking down and teams have already started arriving for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019. The-AFC.com tours social media to bring you the best bits from the various camps.
Whether you're banging them in at the training ground or breaking your international duck in style, goals always bring a smile to the faces of players and fans alike. Missing the target can also be fun to watch, under the right circumstances, as we find out from Qatar's goalkeeper.
With just two goals in their last four games, the UAE will hope a new kit will bring them good luck on home soil as they look to replicate their 1996 heroics. Will they achieve their goal?

Abu Dhabi: Carlos Queiroz will lead tournament favourites the Islamic Republic of Iran into the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 having instructed his players to focus on winning one game at a time as the nation aims to end a 43-year drought at the Continental championship.
The Portuguese coach leads a squad that leans heavily on the one that represented the country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia in the summer, with 18 of the players who impressed against Morocco, Spain and Portugal slated to make the trip to the UAE.
But while the strength in depth of Queiroz’s squad has the Iranians marked out as one of the nations fancied to win the title, the former Real Madrid coach claims his focus is solely on his side’s opening game against Yemen on January 7 in Abu Dhabi.

Doha: When Younis Mahmoud rose high and headed the ball home from a corner kick on a balmy Jakarta evening on July 29, 2007, the largely Indonesian crowd inside the imposing Gelora Bung Karno Stadium erupted in joy.
It was no secret that their sympathies lay with Iraq, who had overcome great hurdles just to compete in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
