Tokyo: Veteran Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura has become the oldest professional footballer to score a competitive goal.
Miura, who celebrated his 50th birthday on February 26, was on target as Yokohama FC beat Thespakusatsu Gunma 1-0 in a J2 League encounter at the weekend.
The Shizuoka native is already professional football's oldest known player after beating former England international Stanley Matthews' record of 50 years and five days earlier this month.
"I'm glad to contribute to a win," Miura told reporters after the match.
"I'm always looking to score but had a good feeling about today's game."
Miura is currently enjoying the 32 season of an intriguing career, having made his professional debut for Brazilian side Santos in 1986.
