Vietnam clinch women’s football gold, Philippines grab bronze

Quang Ninh: Vietnam defeated Thailand 1-0 to clinch their seventh SEA Games women’s football gold medal at the Cam Pha Stadium on Saturday.

In the bronze medal match, the Philippines produced a second half fightback to defeat Myanmar 2-1 to end their SEA Games medal drought in women’s football.

Kuala Lumpur: The 16 participating teams in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022™ have been confirmed following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Saturday.

Kuwait, hosts of the 2022 edition, will welcome Iraq, Lebanon, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Japan, Korea Republic and Chinese Taipei, when the tournament kicks off in September.

Shah Alam: Japan completed their AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022™ Qualifiers East Zone with a perfect record after beating Chinese Taipei on Saturday, while Hong Kong and Korea Republic played to a draw in the day’s earlier match. 

Japan finished top of the standings with 12 points from four matches, with Korea Republic finishing second, followed by Chinese Taipei in third.

Kolkata: Liston Colaco scored a hat-trick as ATK Mohun Bagan defied awful conditions to keep their AFC Cup 2022™ knockout stage hopes alive with a commanding 4-0 win over Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh on Saturday.

In a match delayed for nearly an hour due to a heavy storm, the weather did nothing to impede Colaco, who scored twice before half-time, then added a third after the interval to take his tally in the tournament to four goals in two matches.
 
The win means ATK Mohun Bagan joins Bashundhara on three points from two matches, with both sides still in contention heading into Tuesday’s crucial Matchday Three.
