Leonardo joins Korea Republic's Ulsan Hyundai

Ulsan: Two-time AFC Champions League winners Ulsan Hyundai FC have announced the signing of former Urawa Red Diamonds striker Leonardo as a replacement for the departing Oh Se-hun.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has joined the 2012 and 2020 Asian champions on loan for the season from last year’s Chinese Super League winners Shandong Taishan.

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Asian Cup China 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round promises to be a thrilling affair with the 24 teams learning their opponents on Thursday.

The draw, held virtually in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, saw the teams drawn into six groups.

The six group winners and five best second-placed teams will join hosts China PR, Australia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Japan, Korea Republic, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria and United Arab Emirates and Vietnam in the Finals.

Kim hopeful of ending Malaysia’s long wait for AFC Asian Cup™ appearance

Kuala Lumpur: Head coach Kim Pan-gon believes Malaysia can end their 16-year wait to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup™ following the China 2023 Qualifiers Final Round draw on Thursday.

Malaysia last qualified on merit in the 1980 Kuwait edition, while in 2007, they featured as joint hosts alongside Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Kim’s side will host Group E and will kick off their qualifying campaign against Turkmenistan at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on June 8 before facing Bahrain on June 11 and Bangladesh three days later.

Thailand, Vietnam through to final

Phnom Penh: Thailand and Vietnam will compete for the 2022 AFF U-23 Championship title after beating Laos and Timor-Leste respectively in the semi-finals on Thursday. 

A goal in each half was enough for Thailand to secure a 2-0 win over Laos while Vietnam saw off Timor-Leste 5-3 on penalties after their match ended goalless after extra time.
