Hanoi: Interim coach Mai Duc Chung wished new Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo well as he left his role on a high note, after a comprehensive 5-0 win over Cambodia in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers.
The caretaker coach was appointed in late August following the resignation of Nguyen Huu Thang and he oversaw a fine performance from his team at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium despite torrential rain falling throughout the Group C clash.
Park watched the game from the stands and takes over on Wednesday as Vietnam gear up for their final two qualifying matches, against Afghanistan on November 14 and Jordan on March 27.
“I’m very happy with this victory,” he said. “I want to thank our fans and supporters, they helped us a lot by coming to the stadium despite the hard rain.
“I believed that we would win the game, but the result makes me quite surprised, we could even have scored more if our players did not miss so many chances.
“And finally I want to say goodbye to the team, and I want to give my best wishes for the new head coach of Vietnam team.”
