Pattaya: Lebanon revived their campaign after defeating Indonesia 12-0 in their AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 Group C tie on Sunday.

Having suffered a 4-1 defeat to two-time semi-finalists China PR, Lebanon turned on the style to score 12 unanswered goals past Indonesia and now need to beat Japan on Tuesday to stand a chance of advancing to the knockout stage.

Shaikh Salman hails Uzbekistan for historic AFC U20 Asian Cup™ triumph

Tashkent: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has congratulated Uzbekistan on claiming their first-ever AFC U20 Asian Cup™ title after the hosts defeated five-time winners Iraq 1-0 in the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Final at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent on Saturday.

Roared on by a sold-out 33,834 capacity crowd, captain Umarali Rakhmonaliev’s successful conversion from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute earned the home side their maiden title. Consequently, the Central Asians joined the likes of Japan, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia and Iraq as the only nations to have won the Asian title at the U17, U20 and U23 levels.

Tashkent: Ravshan Khaydarov has predicted a bright future for his team after leading Uzbekistan to a 1-0 victory over Iraq in the final of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Saturday in front of the host nation’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a sold-out Bunyodkor Stadium.

Captain Umarali Rakhmonaliev scored from the penalty spot 18 minutes from time to earn the title for Uzbekistan as the inspirational Khaydarov added the AFC U20 Asian Cup to the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ trophy he won for his nation in China in 2018.

Mohammed challenges Iraq players to shine in World Cup

Tashkent: Iraq head coach Emad Mohammed is hoping his players can learn from their mistakes at the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 and improve enough to make a run to the knockout rounds of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia later this year.

Mohammed’s side were crestfallen after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in the final at Bunyodkor Stadium against Uzbekistan, but the former striker was already setting his sights on the future after Umarali Rakhmonaliev’s penalty earned the hosts the title.

Group A: Bahrain almost there, Thailand back in the running

Pattaya: Bahrain stand in Thailand’s way for a place in the knockout stage of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 after both registered wins in Group A on Saturday.

Bahrain saw off Saudi Arabia with a hard-fought 4-3 win to lead Group A while Thailand bounced back from their opening day defeat to beat Afghanistan 5-4 on Saturday. 
 
Up next for Thailand are Bahrain on Monday, with the hosts needing a win to stay in contention after having lost to Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

Group B: IR Iran, UAE set to battle for top spot

Pattaya: Islamic Republic of Iran and United Arab Emirates will face off on Monday for the Group B top spot after booking their places in the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 knockout stage with their second consecutive victories on Saturday.

Iran turned on the style to defeat Uzbekistan 11-2, while UAE defeated Malaysia 5-3 at the Jomtien Beach Arena.
