Q-final: Japan turn on the style against Kuwait

Pattaya: Defending champions Japan’s free-flowing, precision-passing game saw them stroll past Kuwait 8-0 in the quarter-finals of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 on Thursday.

Japan will play the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The emphatic win not only took Iran to the semi-finals but also confirmed their place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2023.
 
The continent has three berths available but with United Arab Emirates - who face either Japan or Kuwait in Saturday's semi-finals - having also advanced, the Central Asians are assured of their spot in the global showpiece.

We should have scored more, says UAE's Vasques

Pattaya: United Arab Emirates head coach Victor Vasques was pleased as punch after his side’s 4-2 win over Thailand in the quarter-finals of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023, but thought his team could have performed better.

The two-time champions led by the second minute and controlled the majority of the match as they booked a semi-final against either Japan or Kuwait.

Kuala Lumpur: The stage is set for Round 2 of the Qualifiers for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2024™ following the draw at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The eight teams were divided into two groups with the top two sides from each group to join the three highest-seeded teams from the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019 - Japan, DPR Korea, and Korea Republic – as well as host nation Uzbekistan in the Finals.

Auckland: China PR were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man New Zealand in new head coach Aleksandar Jankovic’s debut on the bench at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on Thursday after All Whites defender Tommy Smith was sent off in the second half.

Smith was sent off in the 63rd minute for bringing down Chinese striker Wu Lei following a mix-up between the Colchester United defender and goalkeeper Oli Sail, but Jankovic’s side were unable to make the most of the one-man advantage.
