Group D: Japan defeat Vietnam as both advance

Kuwait City: Japan beat Vietnam 2-0 to book their place in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 quarter-finals on Sunday.

Japan finished as the Group D winners while Vietnam, despite the defeat, also advanced as they pipped Saudi Arabia to the runners-up spot, with all three teams finishing on six points. 

Japan will play the Group C runners-up in the quarter-finals while Vietnam will take on defending champions Islamic Republic of Iran.

Group D: Heartbreak for Saudi Arabia despite victory over Korea Republic

Kuwait City: Saudi Arabia defeated Korea Republic 4-0 but were still eliminated from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 at the Saad Al Abdullah Hal on Sunday.

With Japan beating Vietnam 2-0, Saudi Arabia finished third with all three teams ending their Group D campaign on six points.

Camara Sobral happy with determined Kuwait; Alsharieh rues missed opportunity

Kuwait CIty: Head coach Ricardo Camara Sobral admitted Kuwait needed a little bit of luck to reach the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 quarter-finals after their 2-2 draw against Iraq on Saturday.

Kuwait took an early lead but were left trailing with Iraq netting two goals before the home side levelled the tie to secure their passage into the knockout stage.

The result meant Kuwait advanced behind group winners Thailand and will face Group B winners Uzbekistan next.

Despite the scoreline, Thailand were made to work hard for their six goals at the Saad Al Abdullah Hall by a determined Oman side, who were looking to sign off with the first win of their campaign.

AFC Cup™ 2022: The Race for the Golden Boot

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Cup™ 2022 is moving towards a thrilling climax with just four teams remaining ahead of the West Zone and Inter-Zone Finals on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. 

While lifting the title is the ultimate aim of all those still involved, there is also an intriguing battle going on for the Golden Boot, with Kuala Lumpur City FC’s Paulo Josue and Viettel FC’s Pedro Paulo leading the way on five goals.
