Kuwait City: The cast for the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 was finalised following the completion of the group stage on Sunday.

Groups C and D brought the curtains down on the group stage with another day of high quality action at the Saad Al Abdullah Hall.

Kuwait City: Kazuya Shimizu stole the spotlight after scoring twice as Japan defeated Vietnam 2-0 to book their 16th AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ quarter-final appearance on Sunday.

Having made his senior team debut in 2018, when Japan made it to the AFC Futsal Asian Cup final, the 25-year-old is determined to go all the way after the three-time champions finished top of Group D.

Saudi Arabia exit with heads held high; Korea Republic to learn from defeats

Kuwait City: Andreu Plaza was immensely proud of his Saudi Arabia side despite bowing out of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 on Sunday. 

Saudi Arabia opened their Group D campaign with a famous 2-1 win over three-time champions Japan, before losing 3-1 to Vietnam on Matchday Two, and ended their campaign on a high note after defeating Korea Republic 4-0. 

Despite their impressive performance in their second appearance in the tournament, it was still not enough to see Saudi Arabia through as they finished third in the standings, behind Japan and Vietnam, with all three teams on six points.

Camara Sobral happy with determined Kuwait; Alsharieh rues missed opportunity

Kuwait CIty: Head coach Ricardo Camara Sobral admitted Kuwait needed a little bit of luck to reach the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ Kuwait 2022 quarter-finals after their 2-2 draw against Iraq on Saturday.

Kuwait took an early lead but were left trailing with Iraq netting two goals before the home side levelled the tie to secure their passage into the knockout stage.

The result meant Kuwait advanced behind group winners Thailand and will face Group B winners Uzbekistan next.

Vakhidov proud to end Tajikistan’s 15-year wait

Kuwait City: Head coach Pairav Vakhiodv praised his Tajikistan players for their hard work which resulted in them reaching the AFC Futsal Asian Cup™ knockout stage for the first time since 2007. 

Tajikistan had to survive a late Turkmenistan revival in their final Group B tie before winning 8-5 to advance to the quarter-finals as the runners-up behind Uzbekistan.
