Since winning the AFC U-16 Championship title in 2008, Iran have only reached the final once - in 2016 when they finished runners-up to Iraq.

Iran, the AFC U-16 Championship winners in 2008, will be aiming to reach their first final since finishing runners-up in 2016, while Yemen have advanced to the knockout stage for the first time since finishing second in 2002.

Pathum Thani:  Thailand will face arguably their sternest test of the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 to date when they take on Korea Republic in the quarter-finals on Sunday. 

It is only the third time that the hosts have made it to the knockout stage in 12 tournament appearances and their first since 1998, when they won their sole title.

A goal from Shodiyor Shodiboev in the 24th minute clinched three points and second place in Group D at the Thammasat Stadium, which confirmed their seventh knockout stage qualification in their 10th tournament appearance.

Japan’s 8-4 victory over India in the other match saw them progress as group winners due to a superior goal difference.

Bangkok: Midfielder Miguel Di Pizio believes Australia’s patient game was the winning formula for their 2-0 defeat of Tajikistan which booked their spot in the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ Thailand 2023 quarter-finals.
