Choe applauds DPR Korea’s spirit

Bali: Choe Yon A was the toast of DPR Korea after her goal against China PR on Thursday took her nation to a showdown with Japan in the final of AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024.

The midfielder produced an assured touch to hit her shot first-time after a cutback from Choe Il Son in the 11th minute, which ultimately proved to be the winning goal of the semi-final encounter.

Bali: Ririka Nezu credited her teammates for her opening goal in Japan’s 3-0 win over Korea Republic in their AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™ Indonesia 2024 semi-final on Thursday.

The goal was Nezu’s second of the tournament, having found the net in the group stage tie against China PR.

Bali: Head coach Song Sung Gwon was relieved to see his DPR Korea side came through a tough semi-final test against China PR in the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup™️Indonesia 2024 on Thursday. 

Having sailed through the group stage with big winning margins, DPR Korea only scored once in the semi-final through Choe Yon A with Song hoping it’s a one-off ahead of Sunday’s final against Japan.

Chhetri calls time on international career

Kuala Lumpur: Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement from international football on Thursday, saying that the tie against Kuwait in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ qualifiers at the VYBK in Kolkata on June 6 will be his last match for India.

Chhetri’s international career spanned over 19 years in which he represented his country a record 150 times scoring 94 international goals.
