Kuala Lumpur: Some of Asia’s brightest footballing talents will be on show starting from Wednesday, February 12 when the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ China 2025 comes to life.

Sixteen teams have set their sights on ultimate glory at the tournament, which is being staged for the second time in China PR, after sealing qualification last September.

Man City sign Uzbekistan defender Khusanov from Lens

London: Manchester City on Monday announced the signing of Uzbekistan centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov from French club Lens for a reported fee of 40 million euros (US$42 million) plus add-ons.

The victory capped an unbeaten campaign for the Central Asians as they also progressed to May’s FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia for what will be their fifth appearance at the global showpiece.

Uzbekistan edge Iraq to lift title

Tashkent: Umarali Rakhmonaliev’s second half penalty earned hosts Uzbekistan a 1-0 victory over Iraq and the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 title at a sold-out Bunyodkor Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Rakhmonaliev stroked his 72nd minute spot-kick down the middle as Iraqi goalkeeper Hussein Hasan dived to his right after Abbosbek Fayzullaev had been upended in the box to earn Uzbekistan their first-ever title at this level.
 
The win means Uzbekistan join Japan, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia and Iraq as the only nations to have won the Asian title at the U17, U20 and U23 levels and Ravshan Khaydarov’s side will go to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May as the continental champions.
