Group A: Uzbekistan finish top, heartbreak for Indonesia

Fergana: Uzbekistan were denied a win but still progressed to the quarter-finals as Group A winners of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Tuesday.

A determined Indonesia weathered incessant Uzbekistan attacks to force a 0-0 draw but the result was not enough for the Southeast Asian side to advance, with Iraq pipping them to second spot in the standings following their 1-1 draw with Syria.

Group A: Late Syria leveller fails to stop Iraq

Tashkent: Iraq booked their place in the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 quarter-finals with a 1-1 draw against neighbours Syria in Group A on Tuesday.

The Lions of Mesopotamia finish second with four points, joining hosts and group winners Uzbekistan in the next round and setting up a date with Group B winners the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Group B: IR Iran advance at Vietnam’s expense

Fergana: Islamic Republic of Iran defeated Vietnam 3-1 to finish top in Group B of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 at the Istiqlol Stadium on Tuesday. 

Iran’s qualification for the knockout stage completed a remarkable turnaround as they bounced back from their Matchday Two defeat to book a quarter-final spot while it was heartbreak for Vietnam who exited the tournament despite having registered victories over Australia and Qatar. 
 
Iran will meet Iraq in the quarter-finals after the West Asian side finished second in Group A.

Group B: Australia book last eight spot in style

Tashkent: Australia overcame a poor start to hand Qatar a 9-1 defeat in their Group B encounter at Tashkent’s JAR Stadium on Tuesday as Trevor Morgan’s side advanced to the quarter-finals of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023.

Moustafa Asar capitalised on a defensive error to give Qatar a second minute lead but Hassan Al Ghareeb’s own goal was followed by efforts from Chris Donnell, Raphael Rodrigues and Bernardo Oliveira as the Young Socceroos opened a three-goal cushion by halftime.
 
Oliveira added a fifth midway through the second half before further strikes from Jonny Yull, Gabriel Popovic, Archie Goodwin and Alex Badolato, the result ensuring the Australians second place in Group B behind Islamic Republic of Iran and they will face Group A winners Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Kim’s side have yet to concede in their opening two games as the Koreans secured a 2-0 victory over Jordan on Sunday after kicking off the tournament with a 4-0 defeat of Oman.

Team Dragon bounced back from a 2-1 opening match defeat to Japan and produced an exemplary performance to down the reigning champions and resurrect their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals ahead of their final group game against Kyrgyz Republic.

All my players are equally valuable, says Japan's Togashi

Tashkent: Japan head coach Koichi Togashi stressed the importance of his entire squad as the Samurai Blue notched up another late win at the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 on Monday to hand Kyrgyz Republic a 3-0 defeat at JAR Stadium.

For the second game in a row Togashi’s side hit the decisive goals in the final quarter of the match as Kodai Sano’s penalty set up the Japanese before further strikes from Naoki Kumata and Isa Sakamoto completed the victory.

Qualifiers - Group F: India 7-0 Singapore; Vietnam 3-0 Indonesia

Viet Tri City: India and Vietnam were in fine form as they kicked off their respective AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup™ 2024 Uzbekistan Qualifiers Round 1 campaigns with emphatic victories on  Tuesday.
