Kuala Lumpur: Australia's preparations for AFC U-19 Championship Indonesia 2018 have begun with a win, as Ante Milicic's charges earned a 2-1 win over a youth selection from five-time Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim on Thursday.
Goals to Ben Folami and Joshua Cavallo gave the Aussies a 2-0 half-time lead at Pasir Gudang Stadium, before Muhammad Yusof pulled a goal back for the hosts with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Ante Milicic's Young Socceroos only arrived in Southeast Asia on Sunday, but they started strongly in humid conditions, with Ipswich Town forward Folami striking to give them a 1-0 lead after 13 minutes.
That lead was doubled in the shadows of half-time, when Melbourne City midfielder Joshua Cavallo scored in the 41st minute, before Johor's 19-year-old striker Yusof gave them hope of salvaging a draw when he found the back of the net nine minutes from time.

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia drew 1-1 with the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday as both sides continued their preparations for next week’s AFC U-19 Championship Indonesia 2018.
Despite far from ideal playing conditions at a decidedly damp Shah Alam Stadium, the visiting Emiratis – AFC U-19 Championship winners in 2008 – took the lead on seven minutes through Ahmed Fawzi.
Not to be outdone however, Malaysia, who were recently crowned AFF U-19 champions, ensured a share of spoils when Zafuan Azeman fired home a 79th minute equaliser.

Kuala Lumpur: Poland-based prodigy Egy Maulana is among the 23 players selected in host nation Indonesia's AFC U-19 Championship squad, while Chinese Taipei have named players born in England and Sweden for their long-awaited return to the Finals.
Maulana, 18, is among the best known players in Indra Sjafri's squad, having signed for Poland's Lechia Gdansk amid much fanfare in March after he burst onto the scene during Indonesia's appearance at the world-renowned Toulon Tournament last summer
The diminutive Maulana, who netted a tournament-best eight goals at last year's AFF U-19 Youth Championship, has already appeared three times for Indonesia's senior national team, making his debut against Brunei last December.

Jakarta: Indonesia’s preparations for next week’s 2018 AFC U-19 Championship were dealt a blow on Wednesday as a brace from Abdullah Al Hamdan helped fellow title hopefuls Saudi Arabia seal a narrow 2-1 friendly win over the Southeast Asians.
Despite starting brightly at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium in Cikarang, Indonesia, who will host the AFC U-19 Championship’s latest edition, fell behind in the 37th minute when livewire forward Al Hamdan was afforded too much time and space before thundering home a shot from fully 25 yards.
Roared on by vocal home support, Indra Sjafri’s charges wasted little time in drawing level however, Saddil Ramdani matching the quality of the game’s opening goal with a spectacular strike of his own in first half stoppage-time.

Tokyo: Defending champions Japan have announced their squad for this month's AFC U-19 Championship in Indonesia, after head coach Masanaga Kageyama revealed the 23 selected players on Tuesday.
Only 11 players, including Sagan Tosu forward Kyosuke Tagawa, remain from the squad which breezed through qualifying with successive wins over Mongolia, Singapore and Thailand late last year.
The Japanese attack will also feature Takefusa Kubo, who starred at the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship, scoring four goals as Japan reached the semi-finals.
A total 22 of the 23 players are on the books of professional clubs in Japan, with towering 18-year-old defender Kenedeiebusu Mikuni - a student at Aomori Yamada High School - the sole exception.
