Uzbekistan 2023 cast takes shape

Kuala Lumpur: Nine teams confirmed their places in the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals after finishing top of their qualifying groups on Sunday.

Several others, meanwhile, look well placed to advance as the five best second-placed teams, with their berths to be confirmed following the conclusion of Group H which will be played in October.

Qualifiers - Group A: Saudi Arabia hold firm to seal berth

Al Khobar: Saudi Arabia qualified for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals as the Group A winners after defeating China PR 1-0 on Sunday.

The win made it a perfect three victories for Saudi Arabia while China PR, despite the defeat, stand a good chance of advancing as one of the five best second-placed teams.

Qualifiers - Group B: Qatar cruise into Finals

Arad: Qatar qualified for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals after defeating Bahrain 2-0, while Bangladesh defeated Nepal 3-0 in Group B of the Qualifiers at the Sheikh Ali Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium  on Sunday.

Qatar signed off with a perfect tally of 12 points while Bahrain look set to miss out on the Finals following the defeat.

Qualifiers - Group C: Japan edge Yemen to reach Finals

Vientiane: Japan defeated Yemen 1-0 to advance to the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals as Group C winners, while Palestine beat Laos 1-0 on Sunday. 

Japan ended their qualifying campaign with a perfect record of four wins, scoring 22 goals and conceding none. Yemen, who finished second, will have to wait to know if they will advance to the Finals as one of the five best runners-up.

Palestine’s win, however, wasn’t enough to push them up the standings, as they finished third behind Yemen on goal difference.

Qualifiers - Group D: Jordan finish top of the class

Amman: Jordan confirmed their place in the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals after playing to a goalless draw with Chinese Taipei to finish top of Group D, while Syria finished second after defeating Turkmenistan 4-1 on Sunday. 

Jordan ended their campaign unbeaten with 10 points while Syria’s win means they are truly in the running to advance as one of the best five second-placed teams.

Qualifiers - Group E: Korea Republic qualify in style

Ulaanbaatar: Korea Republic qualified for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals after defeating Malaysia 6-2, while Mongolia strolled past Mongolia 6-0 in Group E of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

Korea Republic finished on nine points to take top spot with Mongolia edging Malaysia to second place on goal difference, with the East Asian side now having to wait to know whether they will advance as one of the best five runners-up to the Final.

Qualifiers - Group F: Thrilling victory takes Indonesia through

Surabaya: Indonesia qualified for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals after edging Vietnam 3-2 in Group F of the Qualifiers at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Sunday.

Indonesia finished top with a perfect three wins with Vietnam second while Timor-Leste edged Hong Kong 2-1 for third place.

Qualifiers - Group G: Oman take their place

Salalah: Oman defeated Thailand 1-0 to snatch top spot in Group G of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Qualifiers on Sunday. 

Philippines, meanwhile, concluded their campaign  with a 1-0 win over Afghanistan to finish third.

Qualifiers - Group I: Tajikistan confirm spot

Dushanbe: Tajikistan beat Cambodia 2-1 to qualify for the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Finals as Group I winners, while Lebanon beat Singapore to finish second on Sunday. 

Tajikistan finished on seven points, with Lebanon one behind but still with a chance of qualifying as one of the best five second-placed sides.

Qualifiers - Group J: IR Iran stay perfect to advance

Bishkek: Islamic Republic of Iran found their scoring boots in the second half to defeat United Arab Emirates 2-0 to finish top of Group J of the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 Qualifiers on Sunday.

Kyrgyz Republic defeated Brunei Darussalam 6-0 to finish as the Group J runners-up, keeping alive their hopes of advancing to the Finals as one of the five best second-placed teams.
