The win gave Vietnam six points and assured them of top spot in the group due to their superior record, irrespective of what happens in their final group match against Laos on Wednesday. Vietnam had beaten Macau 2-0 in their opening match on Saturday but it was Chinese Taipei who were their challengers for supremacy in the group. The hosts had beaten Laos 2-0 on Matchday One and a win for either side would confirm top spot in the group.
