Australia continue streak, Uzbekistan stay alive

Mandalay: Australia beat Myanmar to move within a single point of the Finals, while Uzbekistan kept their hopes alive with a win over Nepal in the second of round AFC U-19 Women's Championship Thailand 2019 qualifiers on Sunday.

UZBEKISTAN 4-0 NEPAL

A rejuvenated Uzbekistan revived their qualifying bid, earning a much needed 4-0 win over Nepal at Mandalar Thiri Stadium.

The Central Asians had fallen to a narrow defeat to Myanmar on Friday, but three goals in 10 second-half minutes ensured they will go into Tuesday's final Round 2 match with Australia still in contention of a place in the finals.

Nepal's second successive defeat means their hopes of a return to the Finals for the first time since 2004 have been dashed with one match still to play.

Hanoi: Korea Republic booked their ticket to the Finals, while Vietnam moved to within one positive result of joining them as both registered wins in the second round of AFC U-19 Women's Championship Thailand 2019 Qualifiers on Sunday.

Fowler nets five for Australia, Myanmar edge out Uzbekistan

Mandalay: A five-star performance from Mary Fowler helped Australia overpower Nepal, while Myanmar registered an important win over Uzbekistan as Group A got underway in Round 2 of the AFC U-19 Women's Championship Thailand 2019 Qualifiers on Friday.

AUSTRALIA 11-1 NEPAL

Already a senior international, Fowler did her chances of FIFA Women's World Cup selection no harm, scoring a hat-trick within the opening 15 minutes, and adding two more goals before her 63rd minute substitution, as a rampant Young Matildas side surged to the top of Group A.

Australia's dominance was clear from the earliest stages of the match, as they repeatedly found their way behind the Nepalese defensive line to score simple goals, with Fowler opening the scoring with a fourth-minute tap-in, before netting a penalty after she was fouled while in the process of repeating the dose three minutes later.

IR Iran and Vietnam deadlocked, Korea Republic cruise past Lebanon

Hanoi: Group hosts Vietnam were held to a 1-1 draw by Islamic Republic of Iran, while Korea Republic put nine goals past Lebanon on the opening day of Group B action in Round 2 of the AFC U-19 Women's Championship Thailand 2019 Qualifiers.

VIETNAM 1-1 ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

An equaliser from captain Zahra Khodabakhshi gave Islamic Republic of Iran a share of the spoils, and a fighting chance of reaching the finals after a 1-1 draw with Vietnam.

Khodabakhshi's 54th-minute strike was just reward for an Iranian side who surged home in the second half, after Ngan Thi Van Su had given Vietnam the early advantage.
