Group B: Jordan, Iraq play to a thrilling stalemate

Qarshi: Jordan and Iraq played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in Group B of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 at the Markaziy Stadium on Wednesday.

Ahmad Hayel Ibrahim’s Jordan side broke the deadlock in the second half through a Mohammad Aburiziq header but Iraq fought back with a well-worked goal by captain Wakaa Ramadhan as both teams shared a point.

Qarshi: Australia secured their first win in the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022, defeating Kuwait 2-0 in Group B at the Markaziy Stadium on Wednesday.

Louis D’Arrigo opened his scoring account with a sensational strike in the first half before Jay Rich-Baghuelou confirmed the three points for Trevor Morgan’s side against a Kuwait who struggled with the pace and fluid passing of their opponents.

Tashkent: Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar settled for a 1-1 draw following late drama in Group A of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 at the Bunyodkor Stadium on Wednesday.

Qatar looked to have sealed the points through Ahmed Al Ganehi’s 87th minute effort, only for Erfan Shahriari to salvage a point for Iran with his strike in stoppage time.

Group A: Khoshimov penalty helps Uzbekistan defeat Turkmenistan

Tashkent: Uzbekistan needed a late penalty to defeat Turkmenistan 1-0 in Group A of the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 at the Pakhtakor Stadium on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half, substitute Ulugbek Khoshimov gave Uzbekistan the vital three points after converting from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute.

Tashkent: Korea Republic will open the defence of their AFC U23 Asian Cup™ title when they face Malaysia in Group C at the Lokomotiv Stadium on Thursday.

The Taeguk Warriors showcased their attacking prowess in the qualifiers, scoring a high 14 goals and will square off against a Malaysia side who also advanced undefeated.

Hwang Sun-hong's side, however,  are aiming to become the first team to win the title twice, having defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy in 2020.

Historic AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 kicks off with stunning opening ceremony

Tashkent: The AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2022 commemorated the first-ever edition to be held in Central Asia with a glittering opening ceremony on Wednesday as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) welcomed Asia’s top 16 sides at the Pakhtakor Stadium just minutes before the curtain raiser between the hosts, Uzbekistan and debutants Turkmenistan.

Adding greater significance to the historic night, the opener between the two regional rivals was managed under the expert supervision of AFC Head of Bidding and Evaluation, Competitions and Football Events Division Jessie Dai Shengying – the first female General Coordinator appointed to oversee a men’s tournament.
