Geneva: The UAE Olympics football team has set-up a training camp in Switzerland in their attempt to prepare for the London Olympics 2012.
The UAE are one of the three Asian representatives in men’s football of London Olympics alongside with Japan and Korea Republic.
The Montana training base will remain until July 3 and the team will play two friendly matches with local Swiss sides and will also travel to Austria to play five further friendlies.
The UAE are pitted in a tough group alongside hosts Great Britain, Uruguay and Senegal, who defeated Oman in the AFC-CAF playoffs. They will kick-off their campaign against South American powerhouse Uruguay on July 26 at Old Trafford before moving to Wembley to face hosts Great Britain on July 29. They will round off the group campaign against Senegal three days later.
Meanwhile, the U-22 UAE team is leaving for Oman on Wednesday to participate in the Group A qualifiers of the AFC U-22 Championship. The UAE will play matches against Iraq, Oman, India, Turkmenistan and Lebanon as two teams from the group will qualify for the tournament proper to be held in January 2014.
Hosts Oman are scheduled to entertain neighbour UAE in the curtain raiser of Group A on June 23.
