Ikeda appointed Thailand women’s head coach

Bangkok: Futoshi Ikeda has been named as Thailand women’s head coach, an appointment which takes him out of his native Japan for the first time. 

Ikeda has been tasked with the responsibility of taking Thailand to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027, with the Southeast Asian nation having missed out on the 2023 edition co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

Kuala Lumpur: The upcoming edition of Asia’s crown jewel – the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ – will take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, across three cities – the Kingdom’s capital Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar, marking the two-year countdown to the 19th edition of the Continent’s most prestigious men’s football tournament.

A total of five stadiums in Riyadh will host the Continent’s elite: the King Fahd Sports City Stadium, the King Saud University Stadium, Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University Stadium, Kingdom Arena and the Al Shabab Stadium.

London: Ange Postecoglou said Tottenham's ambition is to make sure Son Heung-min ends his Spurs career with a trophy after they exercised an option to extend the captain's contract until 2026.

The Korea Republic icon, 32, joined the Premier League club in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and has made 431 appearances, scoring 169 goals - putting him fourth on Tottenham's all-time list.

Son, named club captain in August 2023, shared the Premier League's Golden Boot with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in the 2021/22 season after scoring 23 goals.
