Amman: Friday’s convincing 4-0 win over Thailand has handed China PR a major confidence boost, according to livewire striker Li Ying.
Song Duan’s second half brace along with strikes from Li herself and Wang Shuang helped secure the opening day victory, a result which – ahead of Monday’s clash with the Philippines – leaves China occupying top spot in Group A.
With the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 title and qualification for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup well and truly in their sights, Li believes China will approach the rest of the tournament with a distinct spring in their step.

Amman: Jordan are ready to put the disappointment of Friday’s opening-night defeat behind them and revive their AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 campaign with a win against Thailand, according to head coach Michael Dickey.
Buoyed by a large and vocal crowd, the hosts started strongly, and opened the scoring through Maysa Jbarah, on Matchday One before a second half collapse saw the Philippines claim all three points.
With their Matchday Two clash against Thailand now looming as a do-or-die proposition for both sides, Dickey said his players had responded in a positive manner.
“Have they bounced back from the loss? Yes. Where they upset? Absolutely – and they should have been,” he said.
“Based on their attitudes and the conversations we’ve had in the last 24 hours, I can see that their winning and fighting spirit is back, and they can’t wait to play tomorrow.
“They’re excited and they know what’s at stake.”

Amman: China PR head coach Siggi Eyjolfsson is refusing to look beyond Monday’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2018 clash with the Philippines as his team go on the hunt for a win that would all but guarantee them a spot in both the competition’s semi-finals and next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The East Asian nation began their latest continental campaign in fine fashion on Matchday One, as Song Duan’s second half brace along with strikes from Wang Shuang and Li Ying helped secure a comfortable 4-0 win over Thailand.
Despite the victory lifting China to pole position in Group A ahead of the Philippines who beat host nation Jordan in their opening fixture, Eyjolfsson is adamant the eight-time Asian Cup champions are focusing solely on the task at hand.
“We had a good start thanks to the win against Thailand, but we now have to be ready to face the Philippines who are a well organised team,” explained the Icelandic tactician.
“We are just concentrating on each match as it comes. We are certainly not thinking about reaching the semi-finals or final. Instead, we are purely focused on Monday’s game versus the Philippines.
“We hope that we will be able to make China very proud of the team,” he added.
