Chengdu: Jo Yun-mi was named the Most Valuable Player of the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2010 after the midfielder played a pivotal role in DPR Korea's run to the final.
The defending champions suffered a 5-4 defeat on penalties to Australia at Chengdu Sports Centre on Sunday after the game had ended 1-1 after extra time.
Jo grabbed a 72nd minute equaliser to cancel out Sam Kerr's first-half strike and though she was successful with her side's first spot kick, team-mate Yun Song-mi dragged her effort wide to hand victory to Australia.
But regardless of the result, Jo has been a pivotal player for DPR Korea throughout the tournament.
A box-to-box midfielder, Jo is capable of quickly switching defence into attack and has also weighed in with her fair share of goals as she finished joint top scorer at the tournament with three goals.
Jo's first came in DPR Korea's opener at the tournament with the third in a 3-0 win over Thailand before grabbing the second in a 2-0 defeat of Myanmar in their second Group A game.
DPR Korea coach Kim Kwang-min hailed the significance of Jo throughout the tournament.
“Jo is a strong midfielder and she organised both our attack and defence from there,” he said. “She was a great and important player for us at this tournament.”
