Preview - Quarter-final: China PR v Vietnam

Navi Mumbai: Shui Qingxia’s China PR are chasing their first title in 16 years and expect nothing less than victory when they face Vietnam in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ quarter-finals on Sunday.

China PR  have won the AFC Women’s Asian Cup title a record eight times but last tasted victory in 2006 and the Steel Roses are determined to end the long wait.

Standing in their way are a Vietnam side also chasing history - having never won the title before while a win on Sunday will take the Southeast Asian side into the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.

Preview - Quarter-final: Japan v Thailand

Navi Mumbai: Assistant head coach Natsuko Todoroki has declared that Thailand are ready to face Japan in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ quarter-finals on Sunday despite a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad.

Thailand’s plans have been disrupted as head coach Miyo Okamoto and several players will miss the match but Todoroki said the Southeast Asian side are far from demoralised and will take the game to two-time defending champions Japan at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Pune: Skipper Tahnai Annis wants Philippines to keep a level head as they set for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ quarter-finals.

The Malditas completed their Group B campaign as runners-up after beating Indonesia 6-0 on Thursday, with Annis being named the Most Valuable Player at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex.

Wheeler: All hands on deck in Matildas’ title chase

Mumbai: Breakout midfielder Clare Wheeler said every player in Australia’s squad has a role to play in securing the nation’s second AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ title after a heavily rotated side secured a 2-1 win over Thailand on Thursday.

Head coach Tony Gustavsson’s lineup featured no less than nine new faces from the side that beat the Philippines 4-0 on Monday, with all 23 players in the Australian travelling party receiving game time during the group stage.
