Round 1: Afghanistan 1-0 Mongolia

Dushanbe: Afghanistan walked away from the Republican Central Stadium in Tajikistan with a valuable 1-0 victory over Mongolia in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™  on Thursday.

The two teams face-off again in a week in Ulaanbaatar for the second leg.

Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1: Results & Reports

Kuala Lumpur: The quest to reach the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ begins for 20 Asian teams on Thursday in the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1.

Having been divided into 10 pairings at the official draw ceremony two months ago, these sides will play two-legged ties – one home and one away match, with the return leg on Tuesday.  
 
The winners on aggregate of each pairing then proceed to Round 2, where they join the remaining 26 Member Associations to continue their campaign.

Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Pakistan shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ at the National Olympic Stadium on Thursday.

The two teams lock horns again in a week’s time in Islamabad to decide which side advances to the second round.

Jakarta: Indonesia cruised to a 6-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday.

Early goals from Dimas Drajad and Rizky Ridho had the hosts 2-0 up at half-time before substitute Ramadhan Sananta added a brace after the restart.

Dimas netted his second with a little under 20 minutes to play and his hat-trick in stoppage time to wrap up a comfortable night for the Indonesians.

Hong Kong: Michael Udebuluzor’s early double sent Hong Kong, China on their way to a 4-0 win over Bhutan at Hong Kong Stadium in the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday to move a step closer to a place in the next round.

Udebuluzor, making only his second start for the territory, headed home in the 10th and 15th minutes before goals from Shinichi Chan and Bhutan’s Tenzin Norbu ensured Jorn Andersen’s side go to Thimphu on Tuesday confident of progressing.

The result gives Laos a slight advantage, with the Southeast Asian side to host Tuesday's return leg.

Goals from Christopher Van Huizen and Jacob Mahler towards the end of the first half gave Singapore a good lead but the spurned opportunities may come back to haunt them after a late Jason Cunliffe goal set up an interesting return leg on Tuesday.

Male: Maldives and Bangladesh played out a dramatic 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ at National Stadium on Thursday.

The home side took a late lead in the 87th minute when Hassan Nazeem came off the bench to find the back of the net, but Bangladesh found the equaliser through Md Saad Uddin in the 92nd minute to leave the tie firmly in the balance ahead of next week’s second leg.

Kaohsiung City: Chinese Taipei were in top form to defeat Timor-Leste 4-0 in their Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ tie on Thursday 

The result places the East Asian side firmly in the driver’s seat going into Tuesday’s return leg.

Round 1: Myanmar 5-1 Macau

Yangon: Lwin Moe Aung had the honour of scoring the first goal of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ as Myanmar beat Macau 5-1 in their first leg match on Thursday.

A dominant Myanmar took the lead through Lwin but were pegged back by a Nicholas Mario Torrao goal before strikes from Kyaw Min Oo, Aung Kaung Mann, Nay Moe Naing and a second from Lwin sealed the win to give them a healthy advantage to take Tuesday’s second leg. .
