Shin Tae-yong to chart Indonesia's fortunes

Jakarta: The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) officially unveiled Shin Tae-yong as the men's national team head coach on Saturday.

Former Korea Republic head coach Shin, who replaces Simon McMenemy of Scotland, signed a four-year contract.

PSSI President Police Commissioner General Dr H. Mochamad Iriawan said Shin's experience was a key factor in Indonesia's decision to hire him as the head coach.

Host cities for AFC Asian Cup China 2023 confirmed

Kuala Lumpur: The 10 host cities for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 have today been  announced by the Chinese Football Association (CFA). The cities include the People’s Republic of China capital, Beijing as well as Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen and Suzhou.

The full details will be reported to the Organising Committee of the Asian Cup (OCAC) – at its next meeting in 2020 which will also discuss the overarching vision, key milestones and timelines of Asian football’s most prestigious tournament.

Kuala Lumpur: Muhammad Safawi Rasid was the hero with a brace as Malaysia defeated Indonesia 2-0 in their Asian Qualifiers Group G tie at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Tuesday.

Safawi scored two brilliant goals as Malaysia moved to second in the standings behind Vietnam, with their dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 still very much alive.

For Indonesia, it was their fifth consecutive defeat with their hopes all but dashed with three matches remaining.

MD4 - Group G: Indonesia 1-3 Vietnam

Bali: Vietnam recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Indonesia in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers at the Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium on Tuesday.

The win gave Vietnam seven points from three matches as they lie second in Group G behind leaders Thailand, who are ahead on goal difference.

Indonesia, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the group with no points following consecutive defeats to Malaysia, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.

Dubai: UAE’s Ali Mabkhout entered the history books with a hat-trick as UAE defeated Singapore 5-0 at Al Maktoum Stadium in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers on Thursday.

The UAE had labored to a 2-1 victory in Malaysia and looked to kickstart their campaign with a strong performance in Bert van Marwijk’s home debut. Meanwhile, having conceded three goals in each of their previous two games, the night was all about damage limitation for bottom-placed Indonesia.

Jakarta: Thailand flexed their muscles in the second half to beat Indonesia 3-0 in Group G of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and FIFA World Cup China 2023 Group G tie at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Tuesday. 

It was Thailand's first win of their campaign, having drawn 0-0 with Vietnam last week, while Indonesia suffered a second consecutive defeat after having fallen 3-2 to Malaysia on Matchday One.

Jakarta: Mohamadou Sumareh struck deep into added time as Malaysia edged Indonesia 3-2 in their FIFA World Cup Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers Group G tie at a pulsating Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Thursday.

In an ASEAN derby which saw Indonesia lead twice, Malaysia came to life in the second half and their determination paid off with Sumareh scoring in the sixth minute of added time.
