Group C: DPR Korea cruise into quarter-finals

Santiago de los Caballeros: Four players were on the scoresheet as DPR Korea defeated England 4-0 to top Group C of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Dominican Republic 2024 on Wednesday.

Seeking a third world title, DPR Korea will face Group D runners-up Poland in the quarter-finals on Saturday while England will face Japan.

Group D: Japan advance in style

Santo Domingo: Japan booked their spot in the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Dominican Republic 2024 quarter-finals after an impressive 4-1 win over Zambia on Wednesday.

The win saw Japan topping Group D on seven points - two ahead of Poland - with the 2014 champions to face Group C runners-up England in the quarter-finals. Poland will meet DPR Korea.

Dushanbe: Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh scored a first-half brace as Tractor FC eased to a 3-1 win over Tajikistan’s FC Ravshan to move into top spot in Group A of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

Goals from the Islamic Republic of Iran international in the 26th and 32nd minutes gave the visitors total command of the tie and Tomislav Strkalj added the third 10 minutes from time to put the result beyond doubt.

The win is Tractor’s second of the campaign and moves the Tabriz-based side three points clear of second-placed Al Wakrah from Qatar while Ravshan have yet to secure their first point in the competition.

Dubai: UAE's Shabab Al Ahli Dubai returned to winning ways after defeating Kuwait SC 4-1 in their AFC Champions League Two™ 2024/25 Group D fixture at the Rashid Stadium on Wednesday.

The win put Shabab Al Ahli on top of the standings with six points ahead of Jordan's Al Hussein, who defeated PFC Nasaf of Uzbekistan 2-1 in the group’s other fixture.

Shanghai: Shanghai Shenhua carved out a 2-0 victory over 10-man Kawasaki Frontale at Shanghai Stadium on Wednesday as the Chinese Super League leaders picked up their second win in the league phase of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League Elite.

Wang Haijian struck in the 24th minute against a Kawasaki side that had been playing with one player less from the fifth minute following Marcinho’s sending off as Leonid Slutsky’s side moved up to fourth in the eastern standings.

An injury time penalty from Andre Luis after he had been fouled in the area by Yuichi Maruyama put some late gloss on the win for the home side.

Shenhua are three points adrift of leaders Gwangju FC while Kawasaki sit on three points from the first three matches and outside the top eight positions that advance to the next round of the competition in March.

Ulsan: Taisei Miyashiro scored twice as Vissel Kobe deepened Ulsan HD’s misery in the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 on Wednesday with the Japanese claiming a 2-0 win at Ulsan Complex Stadium to leave the K-League leaders bottom of the league phase standings.

Miyashiro netted in the 48th and 73rd minutes to earn Kobe a second win of the campaign that moves Takayuki Yoshida’s side onto seven points from three games and the J.League champions now sit two points behind early leaders Gwangju FC.

Ulsan, by contrast, have yet to pick up a point in this year’s revamped competition and the two-times Asian champions will need to turn their fortunes around if they are to claim a top eight finish in the group to advance to the knockout rounds.
