The result sees Al Nassr Club and UAE’s Abu Dhabi Country Club - who defeated Young Elephants FC 2-1 in the earlier match - as the early pacesetters in the group.

Riyadh: UAE’s Abu Dhabi Country Club defeated Young Elephants FC of Laos 2-1 in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group A tie on Sunday.

Goals either side of half-time from Eugenia Tetteh and Rekha Poudel did the job for Abu Dhabi and put them in a healthy position going into their remaining two matches in the group.

The win sets Odisha up nicely for their concluding tie against Etihad Club on Saturday, with the Jordanian side to meet the wounded Lion City Sailors on Wednesday in the three-team group.

Kota Kinabalu: Lily Niber-Lawrence’s second half strike secured PFC Nasaf of Uzbekistan a 1-0 win against Nepal’s APF Football Club in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group C tie at the Likas Stadium on Sunday.

Niber-Lawrence struck in the 49th minute to earn the three points for Nasaf, who will face Sabah FC on Saturday, while APF will be hoping to rebound when they take on the Malaysian side on Wednesday.

Thimphu: Islamic Republic of Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC came from behind to defeat Royal Thimphu College FC of Bhutan 2-1 in their opening AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group D tie on Sunday.

Ritu Porna Chakma put the hosts ahead but Bam Khatoon fought back through efforts from Mona Hamoudi and Shahnaz Jafari as they boosted their hopes of progressing to the group stage.

Douglas Costa joins Sydney FC

Sydney: Sydney FC have signed former Brazil winger Douglas Costa with the 33-year-old due to make his competitive debut for the Australian club against Hong Kong Premier League side Eastern FC in the AFC Champions League Two™2025/25 next month.

A three-time domestic league title winner with both Bayern Munich and Juventus, Costa joins Sydney FC after spending last season with Brazilian outfit Fluminense.
