Bento hails Son's superb season

Seoul: Korea Republic head coach Paulo Bento praised Son Heung-min after the Tottenham Hotspur striker finished as the English Premier League’s joint-top scorer to cap a stellar season for the 29-year-old forward.

Son became the first Asian player to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot when he netted twice in Spurs’ 5-0 win over Norwich City to take his season’s tally to 23 goals and level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Kuwait City: Head coach Ali Ashoor will focus on strenghtening Al Riffa's defensive resilience following their nervy 3-2 win over Oman's Dhofar Club in Group B of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Saturday.

While the win kept Bahrain side Al Riffa's hopes of reaching the West Zonal Semi-finals alive, Ashoor was concerned that his side had allowed Dhofar Club to draw level from two goals down, with victory only secured in the first minute of added time by a Komail Al Aswad penalty.

Muharraq: Head coach Florin Motrok immediately cast his eyes on getting East Riffa ready for Matchday Three after the Bahraini side defeated Syria's Tishreen SC 2-0 in Group C of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Saturday.

While Matrok welcomed a much-needed win following the goalless draw with Lebanon's Nejmeh SC, it came with a price as Duaij Mahroofi and Mohamed Duaij will miss the concluding tie against Hilal Alquds of Palestine after being sent off against Tishreen.

East Riffa and Nejmeh are both on four points with an identical goal difference going into Tuesday's Matchday Three.

Seeb: Both head coaches hailed the efforts of their respective players after Kuwait SC narrowly edged out Group A hosts Al Seeb 2-1 on Matchday Two of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Saturday.

An end-to-end game saw Kuwait SC take the lead in added time of the first half through Taha Khenissi’s second goal of the campaign, but their joy was short-lived as Muhsin Al Ghassani headed home the equaliser before the half-time whistle.

Club captain Fahad Al Rashidi won the game for the Kuwaiti side midway through the second half, sweeping home a loose ball from close range after Yousef Al Sulaiman’s initial effort was blocked.

Muharraq: Player of the match Boukonta Sarr said Nejmeh shouldn’t dwell on their 2-0 victory over Palestine’s Hilal Al Quds in Group C of the AFC Cup™ 2022 on Saturday.

Sarr opened the scoring for Nejmeh in the second half before Ali Alaaeddine doubled their advantage in added time to hand the Lebanese club the first win of their campaign.

Nejmeh are on four points and lead the standings on goal difference ahead of Bahrain’s Al Riffa, who defeated Oman’s Dhofar Club 3-2 in Group C’s other Saturday fixture.
